Flying saves a night on the road, and public buses to the beaches leave from the airport itself. The coach suits travellers with large bags, since the cheapest flights include a 7 kg cabin bag and no checked luggage.

Flight time and fares from both Bangkok airports

Direct flights leave Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang. For November 2026, Thai Vietjet economy fares from Suvarnabhumi were sold online at about 1,300 to 1,400 THB, with flight times of 1 hr 35–40 min. A Don Mueang morning flight on Thai Lion Air took 1 hr 25 min. These fares showed a 7 kg cabin allowance and no checked bag.

Choose the Bangkok airport that matches your arrival in Thailand or your hotel. The Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang guides cover getting there.

At Phuket Airport, AOT lists two public buses from Entrance 3: the Smart Bus at 100 THB to Surin, Kamala, Patong, Karon, Kata and Rawai, and the orange Airport Bus 8411 to Phuket Town, priced by distance and running 08:00–21:00. The Phuket guide compares these with taxis.

The coaches sold online leave Mo Chit 2, The Transport Co.'s Chatuchak terminal, not the Southern Terminal. For 21 November 2026, the departures were:

The same departure times were on sale on the other dates checked. The higher fares are different coach classes on the same route. Some tickets end at Thalang, about 11 hr 30 min after leaving Bangkok, before the coach reaches the terminal.

Agents around Khao San Road also sell overnight bus-and-van tickets from about 1,020 THB. These include a change of vehicle and take around 17 hours.

Train to Surat Thani plus a bus

SRT's Southern Line does not reach Phuket. You can take a train south and continue by road from a station such as Surat Thani, but that is two separate journeys with a transfer between station and bus. Buy the road leg for the right station and allow for a late train before choosing a tight connection. The train guide explains classes and Bangkok stations.

Coming back to Bangkok

Return coaches leave Phuket Bus Terminal 2. For November 2026, The Transport Co. departures were on sale at 07:30, 15:30, 16:00, 16:30, 17:00 and 18:00, from 869 THB, with the 16:30 at 1,352 THB and the 18:00 at 1,013 THB. They arrive at Bangkok's Southern Terminal, not at Mo Chit 2. Plan your onward journey from there.

Return flights to Suvarnabhumi were sold for about 1,150 to 1,500 THB, with evening departures around 21:00 to 21:30 among the cheapest.

For the next leg south, see Phuket to Krabi or the ferry guide.

Questions before you go

Is there a train from Bangkok to Phuket?

No. Phuket is not on the passenger rail network. A train to Surat Thani on SRT's Southern Line needs a separate road connection for the rest of the way, so check both legs and the transfer point before buying.

Which Bangkok bus terminal has buses to Phuket?

The Transport Co. coaches sold online for November 2026 left from Mo Chit 2 (Chatuchak) and ended at Phuket Bus Terminal 2. Coming back, the same operator's coaches were sold to Bangkok's Southern Terminal.

Where do I get off the bus for the beaches?

Coaches end at Phuket Bus Terminal 2. Some tickets also list a stop at Thalang. For Patong, Phuket Smart Bus lists a bus-terminal route at 50 THB; otherwise take a taxi or app ride.
