Suvarnabhumi Airport to Bangkok

At Suvarnabhumi (BKK), follow the Airport Rail Link signs to Level B1 for the train towards Phaya Thai. Regular metered taxis use Level 1, Gates 4–7, on the inner curb; Grab uses Gate 4 on the outer curb. Pattaya and Hua Hin coaches have counters at Level 1, Gate 8. Choose the transport for your actual destination rather than heading into Bangkok first.

Find the right floor and curb

The main terminal separates the transport choices by floor. Use the signs for the named service, since regular taxis, VIP taxis and app pickups have different queues and prices.

Follow the signs down to Level B1. AOT lists rail operating hours of 05:30–24:00. Your flight's landing time is not the time you will reach the station: allow for immigration, baggage collection and the walk down from arrivals.

The line reaches Phaya Thai. Plan the rest of the journey from the station to your accommodation, including any onward rail fare or street transfer. A rail journey into the city is useful only if its final stop fits where you are staying.

The government's payment notice confirms contactless credit/debit-card entry alongside tokens and Smart Pass. Use the same payment method as instructed at entry and exit. Check the station's fare display before passing the gates.

Regular taxi or app pickup

For a regular taxi, obtain a queue ticket at the Level 1 inner-curb taxi rank between Gates 4 and 7. Keep the queue slip and show the driver your destination, preferably with the address in Thai.

For October 2026, AOT specifies a 50 THB airport surcharge on top of the regular metered fare. Ask about tolls and any charge for large or extra bags before setting off. A fixed total for “central Bangkok” is misleading without a destination and route.

VIP electric taxis have separate starting rates. Confirm which product you are joining before accepting the vehicle. For Grab, follow the app and the airport's Gate 4 outer-curb signs; that pickup is separate from the regular taxi queue.

Buses for the Old City and coast

The S1 bus for Khao San Road and Sanam Luang uses Level 1, Gate 7. AOT publishes a 06:00–20:00 service window. Check the destination on the vehicle and leave room for road delays.

For Pattaya or Hua Hin, go to Level 1, Gate 8 and confirm the destination terminal, departure and luggage allowance at the coach counter. A ticket labelled Pattaya can have a different endpoint from a coach leaving central Bangkok.

Other intercity buses use the airport's Public Transportation Center, which is separate from the main-terminal curb. Read the boarding point on the actual ticket; “Suvarnabhumi” alone is not enough to find a departure.

Connecting to Don Mueang

The free airport shuttle leaves Level 2, Gate 3, inner curb. AOT lists 05:00–24:00, every 30 minutes, for passengers connecting between flights. Bring your onward flight ticket or travel confirmation and passport or national ID.

Allow time for baggage, the bus queue, the road transfer and check-in at Don Mueang (DMK). Ask the airline about the connection allowance, particularly with separate tickets. The shuttle timetable is not a guarantee that a short connection will work.

For the return to BKK, confirm your check-in terminal and airline deadline before leaving your accommodation. Do not choose a transport departure that reaches the airport only at the check-in cutoff.

Questions before you go

Does the Airport Rail Link run all night?

No. AOT lists 05:30–24:00 operating hours. Allow for the walk from arrivals and the actual final departure. The regular public taxi service runs 24 hours.

Is the airport taxi surcharge the whole fare?

No. The 50 THB airport surcharge is added to the regular taxi meter. Confirm tolls and any baggage charges before departure. VIP taxi products use different starting fares.

Can anyone use the free bus to Don Mueang?

No. AOT restricts it to passengers connecting between flights. Bring proof of onward air travel and your passport or national ID. The BKK boarding point is Level 2, Gate 3, inner curb.
